چکیده

th Australasian Fluid Mechanics Conference Monash University Melbourne Australia December A new laser interferometry skin friction meter was built and was used to measure skin friction in a series of turbulent boundary layer ows This method has the advantage of providing a direct measure of skin friction through thin lm lubrication theory It does not rely on the existence of a law of the wall or a logarithmic mean ow region in the ow such as that assumed by the more conventional techniques such as Preston tube and the Clauser chart The measurements made with the laser interferom eter were compared with Preston tube and Clauser chart measurements in zero favourable and adverse pressure gradient ows Although the interferometer results show some scatter the agreement is seen to be satisfactory and suggests that the law of the wall based techniques are valid in the range of parameters investigated here

Numerical simulation of nanofluid flow over diamond-shaped elements in tandem in laminar and turbulent flow

In this paper, the Al2O3-water nanofluid flow in laminar and turbulent flows inside tubes fitted with diamond-shaped turbulators is numerically modeled. The nanofluid flow is modeled by employing a two-phase mixture method and applying the constant heat flux boundary condition at tube walls. In the results, the effects of different parameters such as the geometry of turbulators, volume fraction...

Boundary Layers and Heat Transfer on a Rotating Rough Disk

The study of flow and heat transfer over rotating circular disks is of great practical importance in understanding the cooling of rotatory machinery such as turbines, electric motors and design and manufacturing of computer disk drives. This paper presents an analysis of the flow and heat transfer over a heated infinite permeable rough disk. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the elliptic Nav...

Turbulent Mixed Convection of a Nanofluid in a Horizontal Circular Tube with Non-Uniform Wall Heat Flux Using a Two-Phase Approach

In this paper, Turbulent mixed convective heat transfer of water and Al2O3 nanofluid has been numerically studied in a horizontal tube under non-uniform heat flux on the upper wall and insulation in the lower wall using mixture model. For the discretization of governing equations, the second-order upstream difference scheme and finite volume method were used. The coupling of pressure and veloci...

Boundary Shear Stress in a Trapezoidal Channel

This paper focuses on a hydraulic radius separation approach used to calculate the boundary shear stress in terms of bed and wall shear stress proposed in a trapezoidal channel. The average bed and sidewall shear stress in smooth trapezoidal open channels are derived after using Guo & Julien (2005) early equations taking a part of an investigation to cover both rectangular and trapezoidal chann...
